After work, and my new rear bulkhead taking up most of my time this past month, I was not able to do much flying. After four weeks I head out to the airport to prepare for an Mother’s Day flight up to Connecticut. Not having flown for the last four weeks, and this being Spring, a more thorough preflight was in order. |

Two years ago before I purchased the tail cone cover from Marc Wiese, cardmarc@midsouth.rr.com I also found a nest—complete with two eggs. With the cover, last year was un-eventful, no nest. I think what contributed to it was the long duration between flights and the slight right rudder that allowed the birds to squeeze in between a gap in the cover.
Lesson learned: When parking for extended duration make sure that your rudder is straight, even if you use the cover. |

Closer view of nest. There was quite a bit of grass in there. When I opened the inspection cover, the stowaway was still in there.

Close-up of grass and nest. This was the total amount of material removed from the tail.
I couldn't believe how much stuff was in there. |
